About this event

Bochum is not Berlin. And the Bermuda Triangle is not Berghain. And yet every German knows Bochum as a city of music. The lines "Bochum, ich komm aus Dir" (Bochum, I come from you) by singer Herbert Grönemeyer have inscribed themselves deeply in the nation's collective memory. His album "4630 Bochum", named after the city, is the fifth most successful German album of all time. And even Berliners sing along loudly when it says: "Bochum! Du Blume im Revier!"

What is sometimes forgotten even in Bochum: The city has been an exciting music and culture city as well as a club centre in Germany since the 1970s. It all started in the 1970s when a wave of enthusiasm swept through the Federal Republic: suddenly the Ruhr area became cool! And the most exciting city in the Ruhr is: Bochum! Here you'll find the most spectacular discos (like the "Tarm Center"), the hardest scenes (heavy metal and goth), with the Zeche a place where world stars perform, with the "Planet Bochum" one of the best techno clubs in the world and with "Bochum Total" one of the biggest music festivals in Europe.

On the 1 1/2 to 2-hour guided "Sound of urbanana: Walk" we dive deep into 50 years of Bochum (and German) pop history. We walk to the most exciting former and current pop music venues, listen to classics, current hits and insider tips from Bochum, learn background information and anecdotes about the city's music and explore the "Blume im Revier" (Quote from Herbert Grönemeyer).
